Topkapi Palace
The construction of the small lodges of the palace had been started in 1462 by Fatih Sultan Mehmet and the largest portion of the palace had been finished in 1578. This palace have been composed of a huge complex. There are two big towers on both two sides of Babusselam which constitutes the second gate of palace and have been constructed in the period Kanuni Sultan Suleyman. These towers had been used by the soldiers who had been responsible for security and it has been used as a prisoner in many times. There have been exhibited many magnificent works such as very valuable jewelleries belong to princes, the pearl throne of Iran Shah Ismail which had been constructed in India and captured as a battle loot, and brought to Istanbul, the wordwide famous emerald khanjar which is one of the items of the film “Topkapı” and priceless “Kaşıkcı Diamond” in the department of treasure. Tha haremsection has been constructed by Mimar Sinan the Great architect on an area of 1500 m2. In this section, there are some rooms which are the residence of the Emperor, his wife, other women, adalisques and large sleeping rooms of Harem Lord. In addition to these rooms, there are many courtyards and fountains in Harem. The inner walls of Harem has been embellished with wonderful Iznik porcelain painted with shapes of rose, tulip and poppy flowers. In addition to these, the sun lights entering the rooms from the wonderful colourful vitrays placed on windows, have created a very different beauty and a mystical aura peculiar to East.
