Fethiye / Telmessos
In this region of Mediterranean, there are so many small islands which are more beatiful each one than another. The coastal town Fethiye has been located in : and it attracts the Tourists with its good and sympathetic position.
Telmessos of Archaic ages, and fethiye of today, history at VI. – VII. Centuries B.C. Today, it is a touristical district belong to Mugla provision. It has taken its new name from a Turkish pilot Fethi Bey who had been born and raised up here but unfortunately died in a plane crash with a friend of him.
The rock tombs in Bahge and Bademli towns in Fethiye frontiers have been well known.
As the others in Myra, the statue embellishments engraved on these tombs placed on the gates of his tombs are the magnificent masterworks. In the South region of Fethiye near the Sarcophagusses called as Likya Type have been constituted and interesting view peculiar to this area. Among these, the magnificant Sarcophagus of Amistos is so amazing. Surroundings of Fethiye are famous for its pretty beaches. Among these, very fined sandy beaches “Ölüdeniz” (means DeadSea) have been well-known with its watersports achieved there. Here, again, the vertical rock structure which has an altitude of 200 m are known because it is the most ideal place in the Mediteranean and Aegaen for parapant sport (hillside parachuting). Fethiye is one of the well-known holiday towns all over the world with its beaches, park resorts and historical existences. There many rich works have being exhibited in Fethiye Museum which belong to the period of likya, Greek, Roman, Byzantine and the Ottomans.
