Ortahisar / Cappadocia
Located one km south off the Nevşehir – Urgup road, Ortahisar is a small town under the administration of Urgup. The most interesting feature of the town is its rock citadel similar to the one in Uchisar. The citadel was also used as a shelter during the times of Christians. It is possible to see the valley of Goreme with its all beauty from the top of the castle. Around the town are churches like the Uzumlu (Grape) church, the Cambazh church and the Sanca Church. Apart from these there are hundreds of storage places for citrus fruits in Ortahisar. Some of these were originally hollowed out by the Christians and have been restored by Turks and are still in use today. Fruits are kept in these places for a certain period of time then transported to various parts of the country. Carpet weaving and wine making are the main sources of income for the locals.
